Cords Gamez
Cords Gamez is a online used games and accessories retailer ran and owned by Ryan Phillips. You can learn more about Ryan and what he has to offer on his Instagram page - Cords.Gamez.
Planning the Project
Cords Gamez set out with the vision to deliver quality pre-owned games and accessories at the lowest market value price. A heavy emphasis was put on a design that was both full of energy and professional. After meeting and discussing the goals of the project with Ryan, he was sure he wanted a design that was centered around a controler.
Once Ryan and I were on the same page about his overall wants and needs for his branding, I started my research. I looked into the branding of his main competitors to get an understanding of what was the industry standard. The main local competitors either had branding designs intended to express formality, professionalism, seriousness, or classic, casual, playful. None of the competition seemed to convey a feeling of both playful and formal, so that is where we started.
Initial Concepts
My process in creating logo designs starts with initial sketches that get my ideas out, these sketches are categorized into three parts: the safe ideas, the industry standard ideas, and the unique ideas.
The safe ideas are the concepts Ryan and I previously discussed, so any concept that is controller based.
The industry standard ideas are the branding designs that the competitors use, that we see as good concepts.
The unique ideas are the concepts I create based off of my market research and overall creative ideas.
Final Product
The final product comes from a week of refinement of the desired concept. During this time, we made key decisions on brand positioning for the desired concept. We needed to use colors that conveyed a sense of playfulness that could complement our formal design. We came up with a color pallet that was inspired by retro game aesthesis and designs.
